Studio Sketch: Abstraction #2
Studio Sketch 2

Documentation of Studio Activity as material and process
Single-Channel Video

artist's studio,  video camera, tripod, house lamps, paper towels, mop bucket, plastic cup, urine, painting, stereo, curtains, table and chairs, sheet plastic, bag

Studio Sketch: Abstractions #1 and #2 subordinate the necessity of the art object to the exploration the artist's body and its infinite potential to physically engage itself with a given set of materials within the confines of a "studio space".

In Studio Sketch: Abstraction #2, the artist walks around the studio, adjusts the camera, undresses, squats on
sheet plastic draped from a painting onto the studio floor, urinates and cleans.  Studio activity here consists of an intuitive interaction between the artist's body and the surrounding materials: artworks, household objects, storage materials, and cleaning supplies found in the studio.  The documentation of this studio activity is both the material and process--the resulting footage is compiled into a single-channel video.
